June – Aspiring Writers – 2014
This playwriting competition is open to “every person” without age and geographic restriction, but we honor all laws relating to under-age minors participation. Minors (children to age 18 years) must have parental consent.
Competition is restricted to English language submissions only.
No collaborations are accepted—single authorship only (except for musicals).
There are no contractual obligations or royalties paid to playwrights whose scripts are selected as finalists or competition winning plays for the Pegasus Books Playwriting Contest. However, all finalists will receive recognition awards. Winning Prize is $100 and the publication (publishing) of your play by Pegasus Books.
Script submission entry fee: There is an entry fee of $15.00 (fifteen dollars), payable by check to Pegasus Books or through Paypal below. Entry fee must be paid at the time that scripts are submitted. These fees are used to pay for the advertising expenses associated with conducting this playwriting contest. No entry fee is expected from playwrights who are under twelve years of age, and exceptions may be made in adult hardship cases.
Submission Entry Fee
The play must be original and unpublished and unproduced in any type of setting or venue.
The play must be complete in and of itself and not be a fragment of a longer play nor an adaptation of other material, such as a short story. However, adaptations of public domain material, published before the year 1900, may be considered if source is identified.
The play must be appropriate for a readers’ theatre presentation (no elaborate sets or stage directions).
We do not conduct, nor send, written evaluations of scripts to playwrights.
Play theme is open and should be limited only by the bounds of imagination.
The length of submitted plays is unlimited, though excessively long plays or plays that are very short are less likely to do well with judges.
Your plays should be submitted on the “SUBMISSIONS” tab on the Pegasus Books website at http://www.pegasusbooks.net/submissions/ . Under the tab, select “Submit Your Work,” and follow the instructions on the page. All materials should be submitted as documents in the Microsoft Word format.
You may submit three plays for consideration. However, only one play per author will be chosen as a finalist. A separate entry fee is requested for each different play.
Only electronic submissions are accepted.
Please copyright your material. Check writers’ guides for more information, or visit http://www.copyright.gov/ .
The deadline for play submission is July 15, 2012. All submissions will be judged by members of the editorial staff at Pegasus Books
Finalists will be announced by August 15, 2012. All playwrights will be notified of the results. For further information or questions, please email us at email@example.com .
Playwrights will retain copyright and full ownership of their plays. Playwrights will receive sole credit for writing their play.
No changes will be made to the script without permission of the playwright. After the play is accepted as a finalist, the play may not be withdrawn for any reason.
